Giga: Staking for school connectivity
11-14, 16:40–16:50 (Asia/Bangkok), Stage 4

Giga is a joint venture between UNICEF and the ITU with the mission of connecting all the world's schools to the internet. Over the past years, a novel approach to fund the ongoing operating expenses of school connectivity has been running as a pilot in Rwanda and Giga is currently scaling up operations.

As part of this pilot, one staking node has been generating returns that are being spent on connectivity in a school in Rwanda. All of this has been done in compliance with local regulations.

Gerben has more than 10 years experience working on product on various applications of technology for good. In his current role, he leads on the blockchain work at Giga (UNICEF + ITU) where he is responsible for the development on applications that accelerate the transition to a world in which every school is connected to the internet.
