Neurons to Networks: Whole Brain Emulation
11-14, 10:38–10:46 (Asia/Bangkok), Breakout 3

The pursuit of whole brain emulation (WBE) represents one of humanity's most ambitious scientific endeavors, requiring unprecedented coordination between neuroscience, computer science, and institutional frameworks. This talk examines the evolving landscape of WBE research through the lens of institutional support mechanisms, with particular focus on the pioneering role of the Foresight Institute in fostering early discourse around brain emulation technologies (Fellowships, Prizes, Grants)

As Chief of Innovation & Strategy at Foresight Institute, Niamh Peren runs current programs (Prizes, Fellowship, and co-Directs the AI Safety Grants) and builds out future programs. Renowned for her groundbreaking effort as an environmental activist, Peren led her government petition 'Tino Pai Aotearoa/ Thumbs Up New Zealand' to legislation; now a lived experience. She advises organizations on future strategy and environmental impact, and is an invited keynote speaker on these issues.
